Down to Earth Automotive-9.jpg

Down to Earth Automotive started as a dream by a goofy 17-year-old kid right here in Humboldt County. As he grew up and started on his professional career, he learned many things from the local shops, had a goofy little kid of his own and thought the dream might stay just that; a dream. A few years and shops later, he met an equally goofy gal who loved tinkering on anything she could get her hands on and the perfect match was made. The two paired up and Down to Earth Automotive has become a very happy reality. With almost 20 years of experience, we always strive to provide 110% on your vehicle and can guarantee customer satisfaction and happiness with our affordable services and friendly staff that will have you wishing for your check engine light to come back on!

Mike

Mike’s love of vehicles started when he was eight with dirt bikes. At seventeen, he started his professional career with vehicles and graduated from the CR Automotive program at twenty years old. His love of these “giant puzzles” has never lessened in his fifteen years working with them professionally; every job has a chance to teach him something new. He has passed this love to his daughter who never passes a chance to work with him and who, ultimately, this shop was built for. When he isn’t happily tinkering away with vehicles, you can find him on various different ones. Dirt bikes, rock crawling, four wheeling, you name it, he has probably ridden/driven it if not completely built it from scratch himself.

“I have spent my entire working life in the automotive industry as well as locally in Humboldt County. I worked my way through the ranks always building my skills and knowledge. I reached the title of ASE Master Certified Technician at 20 years old.  I have spent over 10 years diagnosing some of the hardest and most intermittent problems out there, 5 years repairing strictly Diesel-powered vehicles and every second of that time aiming for exactly where I am today.”

Sarah/Critter

What Sarah lacks in height she makes up for in determination and outright positivity. Growing up in the hills of Orleans, Sarah has only known the inconvenience of not having the correct part within easy reach. With welding experience and automotive education from our local Eureka High School, Sarah has taken the lead from the boys; changing starters in the middle of the night for others, fixing leaks, or purchasing her own flip cars. Another teenager with dreams of an auto shop, Sarah parted ways with the automotive field for a number of years, but ultimately made her way back to her roots.

“Happy to report that even though I took some time off from the automotive world, I learned so much that I have been able to use to help this amazing business thrive and grow. I can’t wait to continue my education and learn even more to help turn this into the best shop in Humboldt County.”

Kona

Kona is a six-year-old rescue lab/pit mix from Idaho. She likes to think that she is big and intimidating but a simple smile and offer of pats will have her melting at your feet in ultimate wigglebutt joy. She loves kids and smaller animals as they apparently provide the best snuggles.

Please do not be intimidated by her loud bark! It is a loud shop and we have trouble hearing when folks come in, that’s where Kona helps. We can always hear her, no matter what tool is being used. Think of her as a fuzzy doorbell that eats. A lot.

Reapurr

Reapurr is the latest addition to the Down to Earth family. He is a spicy, feral boy rescued by an amazing customer of ours right outside the shop! Currently, all we really know is that he is feisty and loves his food!
